I create three types of customs quilts:

  • Quilts made from all new fabrics

  • Quilts made from a loved one's clothes (Memory Quilts)
  incorporated with new materials

  • T-Shirt Quilts

Each commissioned quilt is created based on each customer’s individual criteria.

A quilt can be pieced from entirely new fabrics, for example, for a "Big Girl Bed", the birth of a new baby, a wedding, a birthday, etc. Patients undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation, seniors confined to Hospice or in an assisted living environment, returning soldiers or the families of war & terrorist casualties, families that have lost "everything" in a fire, flood, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, etc., and those afflicted with long-term debilitating diseases all derive comfort from the gift of an heirloom quality quilt. Sometimes they become an anticipatory incentive for major milestones-graduation, marriage, even substance abuse recovery. New quilts are often inspired by a favorite color, place, or experience. Often people want to create a designer feel to a room, but don't want the same look that anyone can purchase in the local chain store. Quilts are one-of-a-kind. There are so many inspirations.

If the gift is meant to be a "Memory" quilt, it should ideally incorporate an artful mix of out-grown/gently used clothes and new materials. Often, as with The "John" Quilts, multiple quilts are commissioned from the same collection of clothing so that several family members can have their own. While each will have a different design, they will all coordinate because of the similar color combinations. Just as family members are each different, but still related by blood or marriage, so to can quilts be related. Memory quilts can be created to celebrate one's success or commemorate a recent loss.

All quilts become instant heirlooms, making excellent gifts for mothers, fathers, grandparents, young children, newlyweds, etc. If handled with respect and treated with reasonable care, they will last for generations. They can be commissioned to celebrate the history and successes of someone still living,  or to honor and commemorate a loved one's imminent or past passing.

Everyone loves a quilt!

Don't be surprised if the person you have a quilt made for isn't eager to share!
(News Flash! Men are especially stingy when it comes to sharing their quilts!)
Eventually everyone will want their own. Start preserving what your children
wear now, raid your husband's closet. If you have clothes stored in the attic now
may be the time to recycle them into somethingmore relevant. Create an heirloom
from the "pieces' of their lives. Start a tradition for those you love.
You'll be surprised at how easy it is and wonder why you haven't done it before.

I look forward to creating an heirloom quilt especially for you and/or your loved one(s).  If you have a "dream" for someone, share it with me. Together let's create a source of comfort that is sure to make all the difference to someone special in your life.
